Here Comes a New Challenger was an exhibition featuring video interviews relating to the 2D arcade game Street Fighter II and the closure of two key London game arcades, Trocadero and Casino.
As part of an ongoing research project by the artists David Blandy, Larry Achiampong and James A. Holland, this collaboration with Curatorial Fellow Morgan Quaintance focused on the cultural impact, social networks and practices that the game produced in London during the 1990s and early 2000s.
Following a Street Fighter II Turbo tournament held on the night, visitors had the opportunity to play the game throughout the exhibition on vintage machines.
